Overview of the BRIN–MOST Joint Research Call 2025

The BRIN–MOST Joint Call is a bilateral research collaboration program between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China. This program supports collaborative research projects that aim to generate real-world impacts on economic, social, and environmental development in both countries. The initiative is part of BRIN’s RIIM International Collaboration Scheme and is financially supported by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) under the Ministry of Finance.LPDP serves as the fiscal agent for this co-funding program, responsible for disbursement and financial oversight on the Indonesian side

Main Objectives:

  • Support joint applied research in mutually agreed priority areas
  • Promote knowledge and technology exchange
  • Strengthen long-term institutional research partnerships between Indonesia and China

Priority Areas:

  • Food and Agriculture (food biotechnology, dairy products)
  • New and Renewable Energy (solar energy, biomass, biofuels)
  • Transportation Technology (autonomous electric vehicles, charging station)

Funding Scheme: Project duration: up to 2 years, Proposal submission: must be made jointly by Indonesian and Chinese research teams

Proposals must be submitted by both Indonesian and Chinese Researchers through their respective submission platforms within the designated submission period

Participant Eligibility (for Indonesian Applicants)

Proposals must be developed and submitted jointly by research teams from Indonesia and China. On the Indonesian side, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set by BRIN. Each proposal must involve active collaboration throughout the project duration, with clearly defined roles and shared responsibilities between the Indonesian and Chinese teams. At least one eligible Indonesian institution must be included as a core implementing partner.

Eligible Indonesian institutions include:

  • BRIN and non-BRIN research institutions registered in the SEBARIS system;
  • Public and private universities in Indonesia;
  • Legally registered entities and community-based organizations conducting R&D;
  • Local government agencies involved in research and innovation.
  • All institutions must have legal entity status in Indonesia. Non-BRIN institutions must also comply with SEBARIS registration requirements.

For Principal Investigators (PIs) and team members:

  • PIs must be Indonesian citizens and affiliated with eligible institutions;
  • PIs must hold a Ph.D. and demonstrate relevant research experience aligned with the proposed topic;
  • A confirmed Chinese partner must be in place at the time of submission;
  • An Indonesian researcher may participate in up to two proposals—either one as PI and one as member, or two as member only;
  • A PI may lead only one funded project;
  • Team size is flexible, but must be reasonable and aligned with the proposed scope and budget.

Only proposals with confirmed collaboration and submitted in parallel to BRIN and MOST within the official timeline will be considered for evaluation.
