The governments of Indonesia and Japan have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 or earlier, with Japan aiming for this goal by 2050. To reach this objective, they need to promote technological development through joint research and innovative projects, as well as the dissemination of new technologies. This research aims to gather information on technological trends in areas contributing to carbon neutrality in Indonesia and to identify potential joint research themes between the two countries. The research will be conducted in close cooperation with NEDO, collecting information from policies, literature, and reports published by government and research institutions. The focus of the research will include technology development trends and issues related to achieving net-zero emissions, encompassing battery technology for electric vehicles, biomass power generation, biomass gasification, biochar, bioethanol, sustainable aviation fuel, synthetic fuels, carbon capture utilization, ammonia co-firing, hydrogen, and energy management systems for islands.

Applicant

The Principal Investigator must be a researcher at BRIN holding a doctoral degree with relevant academic and research track records;
For proposals under Stage B, there is an additional requirement that the Principal Investigator must have a Japanese partner. This partnership may involve universities, other research institutions, or business entities.
The proposed research must be conducted by a research team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities;
Team members may come from various institutions, including universities, other research institutions, business entities, or independent research institutions;
Both the principal investigator and research team members should have experience and expertise relevant to the proposed research, supported by evidence of a track record (portfolio) of research activities;
A team member may participate in a maximum of two proposals (either as a principal investigator in one proposal and a member in another, or as a member in both proposals.

Requirements

Theme and Research Topic: The proposal must align with the specified theme and research topic.
Feasibility: The proposal must demonstrate the feasibility of conducting the research within the specified timeframe.
Language and Template: The proposal must be written in English using the provided template.
Legalization: The proposal must be legally signed by the institution.
Budget: The proposal must include a detailed budget using the provided template. The proposed budget should adhere to standard costs based on Minister of Finance Regulations and/or BRIN Regulations, including applicable taxes.
Curriculum Vitae: The proposal must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae using the provided template.
Document Completeness: All documents must be complete and original.
Ethics Clearance: Researchers are required to submit ethics clearance to BRIN for the research project before the project begins, via the page https://klirensetik.brin.go.id.
