Based on the Memorandum of Understanding between The National Research and Innovation Agency of The Republic of Indonesia (BRIN) and Belmont Forum signed on 30 September 2024, this call is launched to enhance the cooperative activities in the field of research and development between the Parties. The CRA FORESTS 2024 aims to coordinate actions and projects with a transdisciplinary approach to develop innovative solutions to the challenges faced in tropical forest regions such as climate change, deforestation, unregulated agroindustry and land conversion, illegal activities, pollution, and environmental/climate injustices.

Call Area:

Area 1: Reduce deforestation and promote sustainable development and locally-led economies;

Area 2: Ecosystem Function, Connectivity, and Climate Change Science;

Area 3: Environmental Justice and Governance.

Schedule

• Pre-Proposal (submitted by Lead Consortium to https://www.bfgo.org/): 26 November 2024

• Full Proposal (submitted by Lead consortium to https://www.bfgo.org/ and Indonesian PI to https://pendanaan-risnov.brin.go.id/ ): until May 30, 2025

• Review by Secretariat: June – August 2025

• Announcement to applicants: August or September 2025

• Funding of Projects : September 2025

Eligible entities:

An Indonesian research entity such as:

National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN);
Higher Education Institutions/Universities (including private universities); and
Other research institutions legally registered in Indonesia, excluding BRIN, must register with the Sistem Informasi Registrasi Lembaga Riset (SEBARIS) and comply with its regulations to fulfil all required administrative and legal obligations.

Eligibility Criteria for Principal Investigator and members:

Indonesian researcher with the following criteria:

The Principal Investigator (PI) must be an Indonesian citizen;
The PI is required to possess a doctoral degree;
Team members are not mandated to possess doctoral degree;
Preference will be given to PIs with prior experience in international collaboration (joint research, joint publication);
A team member may engage in up to two proposals: either as a Principal Investigator in one and as a member in another, or solely as a member in both;
Both PI and team members possess pertinent experience and expertise for the proposed research, proven by a track record (portfolio) of research activities.

Eligibility Criteria for Consortium:

Three different countries (Belmont forum member, tropical country);
Transdisciplinary researchers from (a) social sciences/humanity/economics, b) natural sciences/physical sciences/engineering/technologies, and c) societal partners (citizens, industry, civil society organizations).

The pre-proposal and full proposal must be submitted by the Consortium Lead (CL) through the electronic proposal system at https://www.bfgo.org by the application deadline. Consortium Leads must write the proposal directly into the system. This form may be used to formulate responses and to share the drafts among consortium partners. Indonesian PI must also submit this full proposal and other required document to https://pendanaan-risnov.brin.go.id/
